Studs, hoops or drops
Studs sit flush against the earlobe and do not catch on hair or clothes, so they suit daily wear. Drop earrings hang below the lobe: the longer the drop and the heavier the stone, the more load on the ear. In hoops the weight is spread around the ring. For studs with a large stone a screw-back clasp is the safer choice.
Matching stones
The two stones should read as a pair — matching in colour, size and overall character. Natural stones are never identical, so judge the balance live or on video in daylight. Any stone can be checked by the gemological laboratory at the marketplace.
