How to compare rings
A ring’s price is metal, stones and labour. Metal is charged by weight: a plain 4 mm band in size 17 (Russian sizing) in 585 gold weighs about 3 grams, a men’s ring of the same design is 30–50% heavier. The centre stone is usually the largest part of the price, so compare rings first by its type, weight and colour.
A lab-grown diamond is chemically identical to a natural one but costs noticeably less. It is an honest choice when disclosed, and the origin of the stone is stated in the ring’s description. Any stone can be checked by the gemological laboratory at the marketplace.
If the size is wrong
A plain band can usually be resized by up to two sizes. A ring with stones all the way around cannot be resized, so its size must be exact. If your size is missing, the workshop can make a similar ring in your size, metal or stone and show you a 3D model before casting.
